Easter 2012

Easter weekend started with the SL 10 miler.  This was the first race I have run since I inured my back las August.  I finished in under a 9 mm and felt really great!  Lost a toe nail but my back felt great!  I also made a new friend, Polly.  We ran together the whole time and enjoyed great conversation.  It was a really great race.

Saturday night we had a neighborhood "Glow-in-the-dark" easter egg hunt.  It was great fun!  My mom came out to join the fun, Scott and Jami brought Rylee and Luke and Monnica came with the girls.  

Then Sunday was full of family fun.  It was a busy day but really fun.  Especially since it was such a beautiful day outside!  Sunday morning I put together a scavenger hunt for the boys and it was a lot of fun!  They took turns reading the clues and ultimately ended up in the back of Brad's truck to find their baskets.

      

Then it was off to Brad and Monnica's for a BBQ before we went to Grandpa and Grandma Holdaway's for the annual Easter egg hunt and dinner.

The night ended with Carson losing TWo of his teeth.  He has been saving up for a couple months for a Spy Gear Laser Trip wire and still needed $4.00.  He was so excited when he lost his teeth because once he gets tooth-fairy money, he'll have enough money to buy his Laser :)   

Carson's Ballet West Field Trip 4/18

I volunteered for Carson's class field trip to Capital Theater today.  Every field trip I have gone on with Carson the teacher has said NO SIBLINGS ALLOWED and I have always gotten a babysitter for Hunter.  However we are leaving for SoCal to run Ragnar tonight and we're leaving the kids home for 5 days so I didn't want to get a sitter for Hunter.  And, every single time, there ends up being a parent that brings another child.  I decided I would take Hunter with us this time and of course as soon as I got to the school, Mrs. Douglass, Carson's teacher, gave me a total lecture.  But in the end, Hunter came with us and he was exceptionally well behaved the whole time.  Carson's little crush, Brooklyn sat behind us and while we were waiting for the show to start, she and and Carson played guessing games for 20+ minutes straight.  It was cute to watch them interact.  Carson totally has a cute crush on her.  It was great getting to get all dressed up with the boys and go experience something we've never done before.  However, I must admit... ballet is just not my thing... and as we found out, it's not the boys' thing either :)  At one point Hunter turned to me and in a perfect whisper, said "This is stupid mom."  HA HA.

Also, when I got to the classroom, I noticed one single desk sitting in the corner of the classroom by itself.  And then next thing I know, Carson sits down at it.  I asked Mrs. Douglass if that was where he sat and in a very frustrated tone, she said "YES!  It's the only thing I know to do at this point.  I've tried everything else.  He won't stop talking."  I couldn't help but laugh.  I don't think she thought it was very funny though.  :)

Spring Soccer Season

This Spring season was Hunter's first outdoor season.  Overall he did really well.  He's so funny... there are times that he is really focused and is seriously really good... and then... there's the other 60% of the time when he could care less.  He'll pick his nose, wave at you or give you a thumbs up on, talk to the other players, etc.  But whether he was trying really hard and focused, or just in la-la land, he was having fun.  He had several games with 1 goal and one game with 2 goals.  He definitely has the skill set... now we just need to get him to watch the game instead of what is going on on the sideline :)

Carson has now been playing outdoor for 5 years.  He has always been really good at soccer, however something really clicked for him this season.  He took his play to an entire new level this Spring!  He went from having 2-3 goals the whole season to having 2-3 goals per game!  Carson has always, even at 4 and 5 years old, had an uncanny understanding of where he should be placed on the field.  He's always been really good at getting to the right spot on the field, however he was always a bit timid and frankly, scared of the ball.  This left him with a lot of great opportunities to score or have an assist that were missed because he got beat to the ball and backed down to a bigger kid.
This season was different!  It was like an "aggressive" light bulb went off and he knew he could win the ball every time.  He has now decided that he wants to try out for a club team.  I really believe he is good enough.  However, I'm not gonna lie.... I'm a little concerned about the financial commitment.  Club teams are so expensive and the last thing I want to do is deny him of an opportunity to do what he loves and take his skill-set to the next level.  This is going to be a tough one.
